Public health officials say they’re continuing to investigate cases of measles connected to a provincial outbreak, with 43 cases now confirmed in Hastings County.
On Friday, April 4, 2025, the South East Health Unit issued an update, saying that as April 2, 2025, Public Health Ontario had reported a total of 655 measles cases, including 560 confirmed and 95 probable cases associated with the outbreak stretching across 13 public health unit areas.
Officials also confirmed 43 cases in Hastings County, echoing again that all cases involve previously unvaccinated individuals.
“SEHU is not aware of any measles exposures in public settings in our region at this time,” said the health unit. “If we become aware that an individual with measles was in a public place while infectious, community members will be promptly notified through contact-tracing activities and when necessary, through a public exposure notice.”
Public health officials continue to urge residents to ensure they’re up-to-date with vaccinations and to stay vigilant and watch for symptoms, especially if not fully vaccinated.
Vaccines continue to be the best way to protect against the highly contagious disease and prevent spread in the community, added officials.
