A freezing rain warning is in effect for Napanee and Consecon as a major ice storm moves through the region.
Environment Canada reports prolonged freezing rain, with ice accretion between 10 and 20 mm, possibly exceeding 25 mm. Widespread power outages and treacherous road conditions are expected.
The heaviest freezing rain is occurring this morning and will return tonight, with icy conditions lasting through at least Sunday morning. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break, creating additional hazards.
Residents should avoid non-essential travel and prepare for power outages. Public Safety Canada recommends having an emergency kit ready. More information is available at getprepared.gc.ca.
