Four people escaped uninjured after a vehicle fire spread to a house on Chapel Street in Brighton during the early morning hours Monday, say officials.
Brighton fire Chief Gene Thompson says nearby neighbours alerted and woke up the family, helping to ensure “everyone escaped uninjured.”
Thompson has noted smoke alarms were working on all levels of the home.
Emergency crews remained on scene into the afternoon for the onsite investigation. Earlier this morning, in addition to OPP, 19 firefighters remained on scene.
Northumberland OPP said that EMS took two other nearby persons to a local hospital as a precaution.
According to Northumberland OPP, emergency crews received the report about the fire at roughly 1:55 a.m. on Monday, March 17.
Thompson said the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office (OFM) was notified for consultation only, and investigators didn’t attend the scene.
Initial reports suggest damage estimates could be about $350,000.
