Peterborough council has approved the removal of the one-hour parking limit on Rogers Street between Hunter and Sophia streets, reverting to the standard three-hour restriction.
The change comes after a parking survey showed strong neighbourhood support, with 85% of responding households favouring the adjustment. The Peterborough Theatre Guild also advocated for the change, noting that the current restriction made parking difficult for patrons attending performances.
The one-hour limit was initially put in place in the 1990s to manage parking overflow from the former St. Joseph’s General Hospital, which has since been converted into residential apartments. With the hospital gone and traffic patterns evolving, council opted to ease restrictions to better accommodate local residents and visitors.
