Northumberland OPP say investigations are continuing after two unrelated serious injury collisions during yesterday’s (Jan. 16) winter storm.
In an update Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, Northumberland OPP said investigators are calling on anyone who may have witnessed the crashes or anyone who has dash camera footage to reach out to police by calling 1-888-310-1122.
As previously reported, on Thursday, at about 9:40 a.m., emergency crews responded to an initial report of a two-vehicle crash on County Road 28 in the Municipality of Port Hope.
“OPP arrived at the scene where two passenger vehicles had sustained heavy damage, and a third vehicle was in the ditch on the west side,” said police.
Three people were treated by paramedics and transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; however, a family pet didn’t survive.
County Road 28 was closed at County Road 9 and Boundary Road for the investigation until resources and clean-up crews were clear by midday.
Not long after the first report – shortly after 11:30 a.m. – emergency crews responded to a report of a multi-vehicle collision on westbound Hwy. 401 in Port Hope.
As previously reported, five people were sent to hospital, and the crash claimed the life of a 70-year-old Colborne man. According to OPP, the four others sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The highway was shut down at Burnham Street until just before 3 a.m. Friday as technical collision investigation members responded to help with the on-site investigation and environmental cleanup was also required.
On Friday, OPP confirmed “as many as 15 vehicles were involved” in the wreck, including two tractor-trailers.
