Operation Red Nose returns this holiday season, providing free, confidential rides home for anyone who feels unfit to drive. The program ensures not just the driver, but their vehicle, gets home safely.
The last night of free rides will be on New Year’s Eve, and Sam Kelly, YMCA co-ordinator of people and community programs tells us they could use a few more volunteers.
Operation Red Nose is run entirely by volunteers and supported by community sponsors.
Kelly tells us what to expect.
While the service is free, donations are encouraged and directly benefit the YMCA Strong Communities campaign, which helps provide access to vital community programs.
“This isn’t just about preventing impaired driving,” said Jessica Laws, Operation Red Nose co-ordinator. “It’s about creating a safer community during the holidays while supporting an important cause.”
To use the service, call 905-377-1218, and a team will be dispatched to your location. All volunteers are fully insured and bound by confidentiality agreements to ensure privacy for clients.
Operation Red Nose is not a taxi service; it’s a unique program designed for drivers with vehicles. Every donation made during the campaign strengthens community support and spreads holiday cheer.
