Dan Bulger, one of Canada’s longest-serving YMCA volunteers, was celebrated this week as he received the YMCA Fellowship of Honour Officer Award, recognizing his remarkable 46 years of dedicated service to YMCA Northumberland.
The Honourable Senator Ratna Omidvar presented the medal at a ceremony held at the Rideau Club in Ottawa, where 12 distinguished individuals were recognized for their contributions to YMCA Canada.
“Dan’s leadership and passion over the years have built a stronger, healthier YMCA that continues to enrich Northumberland,” said YMCA Northumberland President & CEO Eunice Kirkpatrick. Bulger’s involvement in YMCA Northumberland has been transformative, from pioneering the Waterpower Fitness Class to serving on the Board of Directors and leading impactful fundraising efforts. His unwavering commitment embodies the core values of the YMCA.
To honour this achievement, YMCA Northumberland is launching the Daniel J. Bulger Fellowship of Honour Fund, dedicated to expanding programming inspired by his legacy. Donations can be made online or through YMCA Northumberland’s Membership Services.
YMCA Canada President and CEO Peter Dinsdale praised Bulger and the other honourees, stating, “Their passion for ensuring a sense of belonging has created ripples of positive impact in communities across Canada.”
Bulger joins an elite group of only 123 Canadians who have been honoured since the award’s inception in 1978. Expressing his gratitude, Bulger said, “I am truly humbled and honoured to receive this appointment, and I hope to continue supporting the YMCA’s mission.”
