Ride for Rebound returns on September 21, 2024, uniting cyclists and community members to support youth mental health in Northumberland County.
The event, now in its fourth year, is organized in partnership with Cobourg Police Services and Play It Again Sports Cobourg. It features ride routes ranging from 10 to 80 kilometres, catering to cyclists of all skill levels. Chief Paul VandeGraaf of Cobourg Police Service will again take on the challenging 80 km route, demonstrating his commitment to raising awareness and funds for Rebound Child & Youth Services.
Chief VandeGraaf tells us more about why he rides.
“Mental health resources are critical, and through this event, we aim to bring attention and funding to the essential services provided by Rebound,” said Chief VandeGraaf.
Rebound Child & Youth Services is a vital organization providing no-cost mental health and parenting support to children, youth, and families in Northumberland County.
Sam Rockbrune. the new Executive Director of Rebound Child and Youth Services tells us about her goal for the ride.
Last year, Rebound served over 1,500 clients, empowering them with tools to build resilience and foster positive relationships.
The funds raised will go directly to supporting these essential services, ensuring that local youth have access to the help they need. Whether you’re a serious cyclist or just looking for a fun ride, the community is invited to join this inspiring event and pedal for a brighter future.
For Lee Allen, owner of Play it Again Sports in Cobourg, Ride for Rebound is an opportunity to be a good corporate citizen.
In addition to supporting riders before, during and after the event, Play it Again Sports on Burnham Street will once again host a bicycle rodeo with the help of Cobourg Police Service members at the shop following the ride. Allen told us there’ll be goodies for the kids including water bottles and more.
As Chief VanderGraaf points out, “…if we’re not actively, proactively engaging youth in a positive way we’re unfortunately going to be dealing with them in a negative way.”
So whether as a rider, sponsor or supporter, make plans to join in the fun on September 21st and help make a difference in a child’s life.
