We dropped in at the seventh annual Youth Golf Camp at Cobourg Creek Golf Course organized by YMCA Northumberland, in collaboration with Cobourg Police Service (CPS) and Rebound Youth and Child Services.
The week-long camp is about more than just golf lessons. Throughout the week, campers also get the chance a visit to the police station, learn about anti-bullying, internet safety, plus enjoy some great eats at a barbeque with CPS members and drop by the Y for a swim in the afternoons.
Golf instructor Sergeant Marc Bellemare tells us it’s more than just golf.
According to Sergeant Bellemare, local businesses like Canadian Tire Cobourg, Domino’s Pizza, Dairy Queen, and Booster Juice provide prizes they use to encourage kids along positive pathways.
Today (July 3) was the longest drive competition and the winner was Taylor Turk who was closely followed by friends, Trinity Knott and Chelsea Bellemare.
Sergeant Bellemare tells us working with these kids is a real pleasure.
The golf camp takes place in the first week of July and Bellemare is looking forward to doing it all again next year.
