Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board expects to spend almost $484 million during the next school year.
Trustees noted provincial funding gaps resulted in reductions and cost pressures in a number of key areas, including transportation, special education and Indigenous education.
The board says the current level of funding doesn’t keep pace with costs citing special education which the board says is expected to cost $1.6 million dollars more than what’s been alloted by the province.
The approved budget also includes a Capital Budget of over $44.5 million. Capital project highlights for next year include over $17 M for construction of the new Northglen neighbourhood elementary school in Bowmanville, and $3M for a school addition at Murray Centennial Public School in Trenton.
Projects for 2023-2024 will also include: program enhancements for students (library and science room enhancements), as well as annual building renewals and improvements (lighting, window replacements, roof and boiler maintenance).
