Tim Hortons in Port Hope’s 2023 Smile Cookie Campaign was a tremendous success for Sounds of the Next Generation, who will receive the proceeds from the day’s cookie sales – more than 26-thousand dollars.
SONG Executive Director Miles Bowman credits the day’s success to the over 100 volunteers who helped to decorate and sell cookies.
SONG believes in the power of music and that, through music, children learn social engagement and development, as well as inclusiveness and leadership that together, open doors to achievement.
Bowman said it was teamwork that made the dream work.
SONG offers free choral, string and music technology programs for children and youth ages 6 and older, at locations in Cobourg and Port Hope.
Music, instruments, uniforms, and healthy snacks are provided at no charge.
Miles told us he’s very encouraged by the support.
We asked Bowman how the money would be used.
Miles grew up with and was shaped by music. As a child, he sang in ensemble choirs, played organ and keyboard and took part in marching and ensemble bands. Music continues to provide creative expression in his adult life – Miles was in a band while completing his doctorate in Neuroscience. His background in music helped Miles to understand it’s importance to brain development, emotional regulation and long term health.
Bowman says they’ve already started booking for this fall.
