Port Hope Walking Tours are one of Northumberland County’s Hidden Gems.
They’ve been providing a closer look at some of the architectural and historic gems of Port Hope for over 50 years, sharing a history that goes back two centuries and providing glimpses into the stories and histories of some of Port Hope’s most iconic buildings.
Over the years, more than 53,000 guests from across the province, the U.S., and abroad have participated in the tours which provide guests the chance not only to view the outstanding examples of vintage and contemporary architecture for which Port Hope has become known, but also to gather design ideas, explore art, antiques, and gardens, and learn about the people who live and work in these remarkable buildings.
The latest offering of self-guided tours provides users a chance to enjoy tours at their own pace.
After you’ve downloaded the self-guided audio walking tour app, you can then listen to or read about the rich history of many of Port Hope’s heritage buildings and other stops along the way, see historic photos, and watch sneak peek videos of the interiors.
There are currently three neighbourhoods included in the app: the Heritage District, Dorset Street West, and Pine Street and more are in the works to be added soon.
It’s a free download for both iOS and Android users.
We spoke to House Tour Committee co-chair Marnie Bickle, who told us their latest offerings in self-guided tours, came out of COVID restrictions.
