Hidden Gems, Log Jam Music and Journey Through the Arts have been operating in Northumberland for over 20 years.
They are the businesses of husband-and-wife team Mike Woods and Christine Benson.
Mike and Christine help students young and old express their creative muse through music, as well as visual and performing arts.
For Mike, music is what he knows, does, and loves. Located in the heart of Northumberland, Log Jam Studios itself is a lovingly restored original Canadian pioneer log cabin, providing an outstanding backdrop for creativity. His programs are designed to assist those who would like to pursue music as a career or for those who would simply like to play around the campfire.
For Christine, who graduated top of her class at OCAD University, Journey Through the Arts was a way to bring music, art and drama together for children. To date, over 350 participants ranging in age from six to thirteen have experienced a wide range of arts interaction. During their very successful summer programs, students are given the opportunity to participate in workshops in mask making, painting, song writing, guitar, drama activities and more.
JTTA was founded on the belief that music, art and drama are important staples in a child’s growth and development.
Mike told us more about their early beginnings.
