It’s not often someone can say they’ve been doing something for 40 years.
But Dan Bulger, a volunteer at the Northumberland YMCA and instructor of the Water Power Fitness program can say with pride that the program has been operating for four decades.
We spoke with Bulger about the milestone.
According to Bulger, the program was originally called Swimnastics and was mostly utilized by women. He said the created the men’s Water Power Fitness program as a 6-week trial, but due to its popularity it became a permanent program open to everyone.
He credits the long-time participants for the program’s success.
When asked what the secret was behind having a fitness program in operation for such a long time, he said timing is the key.
Bulger said Water Power Fitness can boast some long running members.
The Northumberland YMCA is holding several special Water Power Fitness classes to celebrate the anniversary, which will be operating by donation only.
You can join in on Tuesday, Oct 25, Thursday Oct 27, and a mega class on Saturday Oct 29 from 6:30-7:15am.
All funds raised from these classes will go to support the Strong Communities Campaign.
