Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation and David Piccini, M-P-P for Northumberland-Peterborough South were joined by Mathieu Goetzke, V-P Planning at Metrolinkx and Bob Crate, Warden for Northumberland County and local dignitaries for the announcement of a pilot project with Metrolinx and GO Transit to bring service to Northumberland.
Minister Mulroney said this investment in Northumberland is part of $375 million the province has committed to expand public transit this year as part of the gas tax program.
Warden Bob Crate announced that the pilot project will begin in early July and will gather data on patterns of local commutes for the residents of Northumberland for the next year, but he says it’s just the first step.
According to Crate, the 2017 Masterplan called for a multi-modal transportation system, one that would help the nearly 125-thousand people project to call Northumberland home by 2051.
Northumberland Warden Bob Crate delivered the news flanked by Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney, M-P-P David Piccini, and local dignitaries.
M-P-P Piccini shared that all the municipal partners of Northumberland worked together to make it happen
The service will connect the communities of Northumberland; between Trent Hills to Port Hope, with stops in Brighton and Cobourg and ultimately connect to GO Trains in Oshawa.
