Roger Tessier is retiring as Sales Manager on September 4th from the Best Western Cobourg Inn and Convention Centre.
73-year-old Tessier says he’s enjoyed his 22 years at the inn and that ownership has been amazing to him and his family, especially when his wife, Kathy was very sick last year with cancer and has since passed on.
He admits that he wishes he retired earlier but Kathy wouldn’t have wanted that.
He is has always been so happy there, since retiring from the RCMP 22 years ago.
His advice for someone wavering: he says you have to enjoy what you do – even if that means not retiring – and adds, if you do retire, make sure to keep busy.
In his retirement, he plans to stay busy still: Right now he’s the Assistant Governor of the Rotary Club of Cobourg and is going to be the Club President next year and has even applied as a volunteer for the NHH Palliative Care Unit, where his wife was taken such good care of.
All and all, he plans to take it 1-day at a time and enjoy his time travelling with his daughter and is also looking forward to his daughter’s wedding next year.
He expects the last day to be bittersweet – he’s sure his roots will always be with the Best Western.
