Harmony Memory Care at Palisade Gardens is now open in Cobourg.
It’s a new wing of Palisade Gardens that had their grand opening yesterday (Jan 15).
The new memory care centre is a self-contained section within the existing walls of the retirement residence at 240 Chapel Street, which offers Northumberland and our neighbours that are dealing with Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia a place to call home.
Micki McLean is the general manager and she tells us how the project came about.
McLean says it should be noted that this is not a long-term care facility.
The Harmony program is based on the renowned Montessori approach in dealing with memory loss; focusing on adding meaning and purpose to each day, based on the individual’s personal history, needs, interests, skills and abilities.
McLean adds it also allows residents that are currently living in Palisade Gardens or James Club an easy transition, and, even allows spouses to remain living under the same roof.
There are 23 suites in this colourful, happy space, with the right supports in place to make it a not so defeating diagnosis, based on a model out of Goderich, McLean adds.
