A new monument was unveiled Friday (Nov 8) honouring fallen military members and their families.
The LAV III’s is an iconic vehicle used during Canada’s mission in Afghanistan and the the LAV III Monument Program was established to commemorate Canada’s mission in Afghanistan.
Kara Euale is the Marketing & Events Manager for the Town of Cobourg and she says it will teach students of the next generation about the 400,000 people that fought from 2001 to 2014 in the biggest battle since the Second World War.
The monument is stationed at a location which was once the site of the No. 26 Ordnance Depot of the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps from 1954 – 1970 of the Canadian Forces Station in Cobourg, at 700 D’Arcy Street. Euale tells us more.
Euale adds that only certain communities received a full-size decommissioned replica LAV III vehicle, which was provided by the Government of Canada, to be used as centerpieces as a local monument.
In 2018 the Town of Cobourg was awarded the LAV III Monument and is 1 of 30 communities across Canada to install this monument to commemorate fallen military members and their families.
