Respect the River.
That’s the message from the Port Hope Police Service.
Salmon migration in the Ganaraska River continues to be one the most important natural phenomenon in Port Hope.
To ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy fishing the Ganaraska, Port Hope Police are actively enforcing the municipality’s night fishing bylaw and are taking a zero tolerance approach for failure to release a snagged fish, possession of a snagger, use of gaffs, bows, dip nets, having possession of a spear, fishing in the identified sanctuary, abandoning a fish, fishing without a licence, failure to produce a licence or failing to carry licence.
Port Hope Police will be conducting foot patrols along the Ganaraska River, enforcing the night fishing ban – which runs from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. – until September 30 from Molson Street Bridge to Robertson Street Bridge.
