The Ontario government has announced a new Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub in Oshawa to support individuals facing addiction and mental health challenges.
The new hub will connect people with primary care, mental health services, supportive housing, and employment assistance. The facility is Durham Region’s second HART Hub and part of a $550 million provincial investment to create 28 hubs across Ontario.
“Our government is helping more people get the treatment and support they need, when and where they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “Our investment in 28 new HART Hubs will keep communities safe and ensure access to comprehensive mental health, addiction care, and social supports.”
Planning for the Oshawa facility is underway. The new hub will focus on recovery-based care and will not provide supervised drug consumption services or safer supply programs.
Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Vijay Thanigasalam says the Oshawa HART Hub reflects Ontario’s commitment to expanding integrated mental health services.
“The new HART Hub will deliver compassionate, recovery-focused care for those in need,” said Thanigasalam.
Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter also welcomed the announcement, saying the hub will offer vital services to help individuals rebuild their lives.
