Cobourg police say a 53-year-old Cobourg man has been charged with theft following an investigation.
Officials say officers responded to a report of shoplifting on March 19 at a local business. According to police, a man had visited the store the day before, selected numerous items, and left without attempting to pay.
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage from the store and identified the suspect. Two days later, on March 21, police officers on patrol in downtown Cobourg spotted the man and arrested him.
The accused has been charged with theft under $5,000 and was released on an undertaking. He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on April 30.
