Port Hope Police are warning residents about a scam involving fraudulent claims of a Princess Margaret Hospital Lottery win.
Police say scammers recently contacted residents, falsely claiming they had won $260,000 and a Dodge Ram pick-up truck. The caller claimed the prize would be delivered at 3 p.m. that day.
A suspicious family member intercepted the call, prompting the scammer to hang up immediately. Fortunately, no personal information was shared, and the incident was reported to police.
Authorities warn that scammers often attempt to pressure victims into providing sensitive information or sending money to claim fake prizes.
Residents who receive similar calls and have experienced financial loss are encouraged to contact the Port Hope Police Service at 905-885-8123 ext. 3 to file a report.
Police remind residents to stay vigilant and never provide personal or financial information to unsolicited callers.
