The second annual Battle of the Badges hockey game has raised $9,076 to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-West Durham and Northumberland.
The charity game, held on March 1 at the Cobourg Community Centre, drew around 1,200 spectators as teams from the Cobourg Police Service and Cobourg Fire Department competed for the Chris Garrett Memorial Trophy. The Cobourg Fire Department claimed this year’s victory in the friendly yet competitive match.
Funds were collected through entrance donations, arena raffle ticket sales, cookie sales, and merchandise contributions. Additional support came from the Cobourg Cougars’ 50/50 draw and chuck-a-puck contest.
Sponsors-including Brock Street Brewery, Puck It, Canadian Tire, and New Amherst Homes-also played a key role in the event’s success.
The Town of Cobourg expressed gratitude to all participants and supporters who helped raise funds for mentorship programs that positively impact local youth.
