Northumberland OPP say a 70-year-old Colborne man is dead following a multi-vehicle collision this afternoon on Hwy 401 westbound, just west of Burnham Street in Cobourg.
Five persons were taken to hospital as a result of the crash including the deceased. The other four had non-life threatening injuries.
At least 11 vehicles, including transport trailers and passenger vehicles were involved.
OPP Technical Collision Investigators are currently at the scene and the OPP and first responders continue to work on clearing the scene in order to reopen the highway.
The OPP say their thoughts are with the family and friends of all involved.
