The highly anticipated Recreation and Wellness Centre has officially opened at 50 Seymour Quarry Road, marking a significant achievement for Trent Hills.
This 66,000-square-foot facility is poised to become a hub for wellness and community connection.
The centre features an NHL-sized ice pad operated by the municipality, YMCA-run aquatic facilities including a warming pool and a 25-metre, 4-lane pool, a fully equipped fitness centre, multi-purpose studios, and adaptable changerooms.
YMCA Northumberland CEO Eunice Kirkpatrick praised the centre as “a place where individuals and families can come together to grow, connect, and thrive.”
Kirkpatrick spoke the importance of this new facility.
The grand opening featured an array of activities, including an official ceremony, free skating, swimming, and fitness demos. Families enjoyed children’s activities, and guests sampled light refreshments.
“The community expressed their interest in having a new recreation centre with an indoor pool almost 20 years ago, and that’s when the work started to make this day happen. Thank you to everyone who supported this project over the years,” said Trent Hills Mayor Bob Crate. “I invite you to come and see all that it has to offer and enjoy the sense of community pride you feel when you walk through the doors.”
Crate told us the new facility is a big boost for local hockey as well.
The $21-million project received over $10 million from federal and provincial sources, including $7.5 million from the Community, Culture, and Recreation Infrastructure stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
For MPP Northumberland Peterborough South David Piccini, the fruition of the project underlines the importance of working together.
