As part of a warrant apprehension and bail compliance initiative, police say two Cobourg men are facing multiple charges – and allege during one arrest, suspected cocaine was thrown in an officer’s face.
According to the Cobourg Police Service, both men were arrested on outstanding warrants in the downtown.
In the first incident, on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at about 9 a.m., the service said officers observed a man wanted on two outstanding warrants on Buck Street. Upon arrest, police allege they found the accused to be in possession of a prohibited weapon – brass knuckles – and suspected fentanyl.
As a result of an investigation, police said the 36-year-old Cobourg man was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a schedule I substance, and two counts of fail to comply with probation.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
In the second incident, at about 10 a.m., police said a man wanted on the strength of an outstanding warrant was observed by police in the King Street East and McGill Street area.
Officers allegedly advised the man he was under arrest and the man “ripped open a bag of suspected cocaine and threw it in the face of one of the officers,” reported police.
“Police were able to gain control of the accused and handcuff him.”
During a search incident to arrest, police allege they located a small container of suspected heroin.
The service said the officer was treated by paramedics on scene.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 44-year-old Cobourg man was charged with two counts of fail to comply with probation, two counts of possession of a schedule I substance, and obstructing a peace officer.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
