The Cobourg and East Northumberland Branch of the Architectural Conservancy Ontario (ACO) invites residents to “Protect Brookside: Act Now,” a public forum addressing the future of the historic Brookside Youth Centre property.
Set for October 30 at 7 p.m. at the Columbus Hall, 232 Spencer Street East, the event will explore the history and potential threats facing this heritage site.
With over 30 acres and three historic structures, Brookside is considered by the branch to be a significant part of Cobourg’s landscape. However, recent rumours of development proposals have raised concerns about the property’s preservation. Cobourg historian and author Rob Mikel will give an in-depth presentation on the site’s historical and architectural importance.
Organizers plan to discuss how similar communities have managed preservation challenges and how public engagement can shape Brookside’s future.
