Northumberland County is offering a new 12-session program designed to help newcomer food entrepreneurs bring their products to market.
The Northumberland Newcomers’ Food Entrepreneur Program will provide participants with the tools to turn their small-batch recipes into scalable, retail-ready products. Each 2.5-hour session will cover topics such as food safety, branding, marketing strategies, and sustainable food practices. Participants will also receive guidance on U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) packaging and nutrition labeling requirements.
Led by Emilio Ojeda, Settlement Services Coordinator, the program aims to support economic integration for newcomers while enhancing local food innovation.
Participants will also have networking opportunities with local grocers, distributors, and the media. Those who complete the program may even compete for the chance to create their product for free at the Ontario Agri-Food Venture Centre (OAFVC).
