COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: Cobourg Waterfront Festival returns with a bang Canada Day weekend

The Town of Cobourg’s Community Services Division has announced the schedule for the 2024 Cobourg Waterfront Festival and Canada Day celebrations.

Manager of Culture and Events Jackie Chapman Davis tells us the Lions and Rotary Clubs are great partners in bring this event to life.

From June 29 to July 1, Victoria Park and the surrounding area will come alive with a variety of activities suitable for all ages, continuing a cherished tradition now in its 35th year.

According to Chapman Davis, the festivities actually get started on Friday with the midway.

Also on Friday afternoon, there’ll be a Strawberry Social in support of the United Way under the big tent in Victoria Park from 4:30 to 6 pm before the midway opens at 5 p.m. Friday night you call also take in the Craft Beer Night featuring Mad Mans Window in the Refreshment Tent.

The festival officially kicks off on Saturday, June 29, with the Rotary HarbourArts offering free admission to an array of local vendors and artisans on The Esplanade. Early risers can enjoy the Northumberland Central Chamber of Commerce’s “Breakfast in the Park” featuring fresh strawberries, pancakes, and barbequed sausages starting at 7:30 am. For thrill-seekers, Victoria Park will continue to host the midway featuring amusement rides and games from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, with tickets available on-site.

Chapman Davis tells us that all activities on Canada Day are free, including kids activities hosted by Home Depot in the Lions pavilion.

On Canada Day, July 1, you can watch the parade at 11 a.m. along King Street, followed by opening ceremonies at 12:30 p.m. in Victoria Park. Throughout the day, enjoy live performances at the Bandshell, children’s activities, and an array of food and drink options at the Lions Marketplace. The day culminates in a spectacular fireworks display over the harbour at 10 p.m.

To ease transportation, free shuttles will run continuously from the Northumberland Mall and the Cobourg Community Centre to the festival grounds. With so much to see and do, the Cobourg Waterfront Festival is set to be a highlight of the summer.
