Cobourg Police Service’s (CPS) bi-weekly update highlights ongoing efforts to maintain safety and security in the community.
During these two weeks, CPS responded to 868 calls for service, which included various incidents such as a break and enter on Burnett Drive, a theft from a vehicle on Ontario Street, and three cases of mischief on University Avenue East, Alexandria Drive, and College Street. Additionally, a driveway paving scam was reported in the east end, and three bikes were stolen from Rankin Boulevard and Westwood Drive.
As part of the 2024 Downtown Community Safety Action Plan, the Dynamic Patrol was active throughout Cobourg, particularly in the downtown core and nearby parks. Since its deployment on May 1, the patrol has focused on increasing police presence and community engagement. In the first half of June, officers conducted 188 foot patrols, responded to four suspected drug poisoning calls, and performed 84 property checks.
This proactive approach led to 43 arrests, including individuals wanted on outstanding warrants. CPS issued 8 trespass tickets and 51 Highway Traffic Act charges as well.
The Cobourg Police Service says the initiative underscores their commitment to safety and collaboration with community partners to support all residents.
