Just before 6 am on May 21, police were dispatched to William St. and Heath Street for a personal welfare check.
Upon arrival, they discovered a man in possession of a shopping cart loaded with copper wire and power tools.
The 37-year-old from Cobourg was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime.
Further investigation by the police revealed that some of the seized items were stolen during a recent break-in at a construction site in Cobourg’s north end.
Authorities anticipate additional charges as the investigation continues.
