The Cobourg Police Service (CPS) says three Toronto residents are facing charges after a probe into reported thefts at area businesses.
On Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024, at about 12:45 p.m., police said they responded to a theft in-progress call at a business in the Spring Street and King Street area in Cobourg.
Attending officers were advised of three involved individuals allegedly believed to have committed a theft from a business in Port Hope before attending the Cobourg business, said police.
Police said two suspects allegedly left the Cobourg store on foot and one left in a vehicle. Police said the suspect vehicle was subsequently located on University Avenue and a vehicle stop was made.
Police allege they discovered multiple stolen items in the vehicle.
As a result of a joint investigation between Cobourg police and the Port Hope Police Service, a 28-year-old Toronto woman was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and theft under $5,000, said police.
Police said the other two accused individuals were located a short distance from the business. As a result of the investigation, police said a 20-year-old man and 19-year-old woman from Toronto were arrested and charged with theft under $5,000.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
All three of the accused were held for a show cause hearing, said police, on Feb. 8.
