Looking forward to spring? The Lower Trent Conservation Authority (LTCA) is currently accepting orders for its annual Native Plant Sale. Massimo Narini, the LTCA’s Watershed Services Specialist, tells us about the kits they’ve put together.
He says it not only supports plants, but local wildlife too.
There are a variety of price points depending on the tree and plant kits. For example, the wildflower kits for sun loving areas are $50.00 each and include, seeds for Black-Eyed Susan, Wild Bergamont, Mountain Mint, Butterfly Weed (Milkweed), Hairy Beardtongue, and Wild Strawberry plants. The shade loving kit is $70.00 each and include seeds for Wild Ginger, Large Leaf Aster, Wild Geranium, White Trillium, Common Blue Violet, and White Snakeroot.
There are lots of kits and seedling packages to choose from and all purchases can be made online.
For the past 50 years, the LTCA has contributed to building healthier communities, improving the quality of life for residents, making our area more appealing to visitors and new businesses, and helping to ensure a more vibrant regional economy.
Narini says they cover over 2,000 square kilometres.
“We deal with many issues,” added Narini. “Working with residents on building and development, permitting and regulations but we also do outreach and education along with environmental monitoring and flood forecasting.
