A local hockey player has been recognized for his outstanding efforts off the ice.
Dalyn Wakely of the North Bay Battalion was named the Canadian Hockey League’s Humanitarian of The Year.
The award is given out annually to the CHL player judged to have made the most notable contribution to his community in a humanitarian sense.
Wakely, who is a member of the Curve Lake First Nation just outside of Peterborough, says he is really humbled for the award.
Giving back to the community that’s welcomed him openly was important for Wakely.
After he was announced as the award winner, Wakely said he could feel the support from his family.
Part of Wakely’s efforts include ‘Wake’s Sake’, a program he launched last year to support the homeless in North Bay and surrounding areas.
