The Town of Cobourg could be getting a new state of the art police facility in the coming years.
That’s what Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf said when we spoke to him about what’s in store for the coming year.
He said that it’s still in the very early stages, but it is something that is being looked at by the Police Services Board.
When the time comes, the public will no doubt get their say on what they think police will need to be effective in serving the community.
Chief VandeGraaf said that there could possibly be a new location for the headquarters if extensive upgrades are required, however he noted that there will always be a police presence downtown in the form of satellite stations if need be.
He said that their current building at the Corner of King and Hibernia Street has served them well, but they’ve outgrown the old building.
As for what the new facility would look like, VandeGraaf said he’ll leave it up to the experts to decide what is actually required for a police service the size of Cobourg’s.
VandeGraaf noted that they’re far off from having a shovel in the ground, but it’s still something that is in the works that will come to fruition over the next few years.
