No one ever plans for an event that changes the course of your everyday life.
So when 18 year old Taylor Macklin of Baltimore was in a car accident with a dump truck on June 14, her family began the slow process of supporting her through her recovery.
Her father, Jeremy Macklin, said that while she is on the mend, there’s a long road ahead for Taylor.
Among other smaller injuries, Taylor broke her pelvis, shattered two vertebrae, and broke her left hand in the accident. She’s had to have surgery to repair her injuries, something Jeremy said has been very painful for her.
He also noted that the biggest, longest hurdle in her recovery won’t likely be a physical one.
Despite all this, the Macklin family is doing their best to stay on the positive side.
Jeremy said unfortunately the family has had some adversity in the past, but that means they’re strong enough to get through this instance together.
The family is chronicling Taylor’s recovery on a website, taylormacklin.ca, so that people can stay up to date with how she’s doing. There’s also a link that has been organized to help out the family with some of the extra costs and travel to and from the hospital.
Jeremy said he’s extremely grateful of all the support the family has received from the community.
He added that seeing all the messages of support for Taylor has helped the whole family stay positive through the rough times.
In the last update on the website from July 5, Taylor was just beginning rehab and stood up with some assistance for the first time since the accident.
Jeremy said that Taylor is studying at Queens right now and one day hopes to work as a police officer.
