Inspector Jeff Martin of the Northumberland OPP recently met with store keeper and curator Ray Cobbing, of Ray Cobbing’s Antique and Collectibles located in Trent Hills.
Inspector Martin had heard that an OPP issued Stetson hat was being sold online and reached out to the seller to discuss the authentic uniform piece and the risks of non-police citizens having authentic police uniforms and equipment.
Mr. Cobbing made the decision to donate the stetson to the OPP for display purposes instead. This particular version of the stetson hat was rare and only a limited few were issued to officers.
The hat will now be displayed in the museum at the OPP General Headquarters in Orillia, where it can be enjoyed as a piece of the Ontario Provincial Police’s history.
