If you’re out and about today, you may notice many flags at half mast.
Today (Mar 11) is the National Day of Observance for COVID-19.
It’s also the one year anniversary of Ontario’s first death relating to the novel coronavirus – a 77-year-old Barrie man.
Municipal flags at the Cobourg Community Centre, the Cobourg Fire Hall, Venture13, Rotary Harbourfront Park, Victoria Park, Chris Garrett Park and Jubilee Park have all been lowered.
Local school boards have also lowered their flags in recognition of the impacts of COVID-19 felt across Canada.
Mayor JOhn Henderson says while we’re still in the midst of this pandemic, it’s important to remember all those who have suffered and those that lost their lives.
He says it’s also a time to reflect on the strength of our community and the compassion often displayed by residents.
