At the January 4 committee of the whole meeting, Cobourg, council discussed the possibility of Brock Street Brewing Company opening a facility within the Lucas Point Industrial Park.
Brock Street Brewery has been operating for just over five years in Whitby.
Mayor John Henderson tells us more about the company.
An offer was made to Cobourg by the company to purchase approximately four acres of industrial property in Cobourg’s East End Industrial Park, behind the Rusco Window’s facility.
Phase 1 will be the construction of the 12,000 ft. building within a year and Phase 2 and 3 will follow with further construction shortly after on the remainder of their purchased property.
The initial building will be utilized as a packaging facility and will likely employ 25 to 35 employees and eventually Brock Street Brewing anticipates having over 75 plus jobs once all phases are complete.
Henderson adds these new positions will be available to residents of Cobourg or neighbouring communities.
Henderson adds that services continue in Cobourg despite the pandemic and that new business is great, but adds we need to also support businesses that are already here so that they stay here.
If permitted, they may also operate a small retail store and/or an on-site restaurant.
This brewery facility is subject to approval at the next regular council meeting tonight (Jan 11).
