The Cobourg Highland Games Society is seeking the community’s support.
George Cackette, president of the society, says they were heading into 2020 already in a tough spot, and then they were faced with COVID-19.
Cackette says they’re close to $15,000 in debt from the 2019 Cobourg Highland Games, and then were forced to cancel this year’s games.
He says this makes donations crucial in order to save the games that have been taking place in our community for 57 years.
Cackette says they’ve also taken steps to give themselves the best chances of hosting the annual Highland Games in 2021.
While these games may just see like an annual tradition for your family or something fun to do in June, they’re actually quite expensive to put on each year.
Cackette explains some of the costs associated with hosting a Highland Games.
Cackette says total expenditure is in the neighbourhood of 90 to 100 thousand dollars.
You can support the Cobourg Highland Games through Cackette’s GoFundMe page gofundme.com/f/cobourg-highland-games or through their website cobourghighlandgames.ca/donations.
