Abigail West identified a gap in services for mothers in our community, so she created Mama + Co. Physio.
West was raised in Cobourg, and her you may know her dad – well-known strong man and Guinness World Record holder, Kevin Fast.
West attended University at Wilfred Laurier University and Queen’s University, before moving back to Northumberland, began work as a physiotherapist at Northumberland Hills Hospital before starting her own family.
She says she personally experienced how beneficial physiotherapy was in the post-natal stages, but also quickly learned how difficult it is to attend appointments with a newborn.
West says after her son was born, Mama + Co. Physio was born, and she enrolled in classes and workshops so she was able to start her own practice where the physiotherapist comes to you.
She says she offers services for pregnant and post-natal mothers such as neck and shoulder pain, breast feeding support, core training and more, as well as treatment of infant conditions.
West says to be pregnant or a new mom right now during a pandemic is difficult when they say it takes a village to raise a child, but the village has to remain at least 6 feet away.
She also makes products that are available for purchase to help moms in the days and weeks after giving birth.
