A public notice was issued by the Town of Cobourg yesterday (July 14), recommending users wear non-medical face masks or face coverings while using conventional and WHEELS transit.
As of Monday (July 13), face coverings are required inside businesses in the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit region.
Laurie Wills, director of public works for the Town says that, “by wearing a non-medical mask or face covering, passengers can help protect the health and safety of the drivers and other passengers while reducing the likelihood of unknowingly spreading the COVID-19 virus.”
Transit riders will also notice that numerous seats have been closed to encourage physical distancing while riding the bus.
There are exceptions to the rule, such as:
Children under the age of two years, Children under the age of 5 years (either chronologically or developmentally) who refuse to wear a face covering and cannot be persuaded to do so by their caregiver, any person unable to remove a mask without assistance, for someone with any medical reason: a person who cannot safely wear a non-medical mask or face covering such as, but not limited to, respiratory disease, cognitive difficulties or difficulties in hearing or processing information, and for any religious reason: a person cannot wear a non-medical mask or face covering or cannot cover the face in a manner that would properly control the source.
