Lindsey Edwards of Royal LePage ProAlliance Realty is back from the Sahara Desert.
Edwards went to great lengths to support, advocate, and fundraise for Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre when she trekked 100 kilometers across the Sahara Desert with Royal LePage Canada and the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.
As one of 120 trekkers nationwide, Lindsey raised $37,500, finishing as the second highest fundraiser in Canada!
On Thursday (Jan 30) evening, a cheque for $30,000 was presented to Cornerstone, supporting 240 nights of safety in the shelter. Edwards tells us more.
A short film of Edwards trek was also shared, showing pictures and a commentary by Edwards’.
In addition to funds raised, Edwards raised awareness for Cornerstone by rallying the community together – Edwards can’t say enough about the generosity of Northumberland residents…she finished as the second highest fundraiser in Canada next to someone from Winnipeg. Let’s put it this way: the population of Northumberland: around 90,000; population (of the seventh largest city in Canada) Winnipeg is around 750,000!
After lunch but before they would start walking again someone would share a story. Edwards shares with us the emotional story that was in her video.
For her, the most emotional day was when the trek was over and she knew she would be reunited with her family.
Also on Thursday, Cornerstone dedicated their Resource Centre Group Room to Edwards.
The group room is a community space where people can gather to celebrate, share, learn, and grow. It is also a space that is often filled with women who have courageously taken on a long personal journey to find happiness and health, and as Cornerstone says it’s just like Edwards did when she so bravely accepted the Sahara Desert challenge and stepped up for Cornerstone.
