There was never any danger but since the false alarm about a nuclear incident at the Pickering Power plant, orders for potassium iodide pills have surged in Ontario.
The pills help protect the thyroid gland and reduce the risk of cancer if radioactive iodine is released to the air.
Ontario Power Generation says more than 32-thousand orders for the pills have been placed since the alert.
The government claims the alert was a mistake, sent in error during a training exercise by Ontario’s Emergency Operations Centre.
The province says it’s investigating to ensure the same mistake isn’t made again.
